Poppy Crozier’s Legacy Endures as First Scholarship Recipient Completes Transformative Agricultural Placement
The Stand Like Stone Foundation and Bunge (formerly Viterra) areproud to celebrate the successful completion of the first work placementdelivered through the Poppy Crozier Memorial Scholarship — a program created tohonour the life, passion and potential of young Tatiara local Poppy Crozier.
The scholarship was established by the Crozier family after Poppy tragically passed away in a road accident in 2023. Poppy was studying Agricultural Science and was deeply committed to a future in agriculture. Inthe two years since her accident, the fund created in her name has grown tomore than $117,000, thanks to generous support from donors across Australia.
This year, the scholarship made its first impact through localstudent Charlie Hannemann, who has been completing paid work placementwith Bunge alongside his university studies — gaining hands-on experience inthe agricultural supply chain while helping carry Poppy’s legacy forward.
Charlie describes the experience as transformative:
“It’s a really different experience for me — I’ve been deliveringgrain from our family farm to Bunge for as long as I can remember, but workinginside the business has shown me aspects of agriculture beyond the farm gate,”Charlie said.
“I’ve learnt about food quality, safety and the chain ofresponsibility requirements that shape the industry. I’ve also gained insightsinto grain merchandising and trading and I’ve had the chance to assist withgrain selling contracts. Everyone has been incredibly friendly and professionaland this experience has given me confidence and valuable office skills topromote myself more broadly once I finish my degree.”
Bunge’s HRBP Senior Manager, Alyson Gilbey, said thepartnership reflects the company’s commitment to investing in regional talent.
“Charlie’s experience reflects the spirit of the scholarship andthe legacy of Poppy Crozier,” Alyson said. “We’re honoured to be part of thisinitiative and look forward to expanding the industry placement component infuture years.”
Charlie also shares a deeply personal connection to thescholarship’s namesake. He and Poppy grew up together in the Tatiara, attendedkindy and school side-by-side, and later enrolled in the same degree – aBachelor of Agricultural Studies at the University of Adelaide.
Stand Like Stone Chair Georgie McKay said the scholarshiprepresents both tribute and opportunity.
"This partnership with Bunge provides a powerful pathway forstudents to gain practical experience and build careers in agriculture. We’reproud to see Charlie thrive and honoured to support Poppy’s legacy through thisscholarship,” Georgie said.
“It feels especially fitting that the inaugural scholarship wasawarded to one of Poppy’s lifelong friends and we now look forward to reviewingthe next round of applicants and offering this unique opportunity to anotherLimestone Coast student.”
Poppy’s parents Charlie and Asha Crozier are proudof community support for the scholarship and seeing it make a difference.
“Poppy adored her connection to home and agriculture and theopportunities it brings,” they said in a family statement.
“It would mean so much to her to see Charlie continuing the samepath she was excited about.”
